Fanu in the mix 23.02.06

23rd February:

This is a mix that was intended to air as our show last week – but the speech was too quiet as we fucked up the recording (we, stoners…) so this wasn’t aired.
For that reason, we did the show live – which we will do from now on.
So, anyways, we thought, why the heck shouldn’t we share this fine mix.
There’s Fanu, Docius, and our special guest Matti (Amistad-Erbanta-Herwanta) on the decks.

“THE PUSH PULL”
The first thing that you’ll notice about “The Push Pull” is the dangerous undertow. There is a funky, funky force at work in these tracks that falls somewhere between gravity and magic.
David Last brings his eagerly anticipated debut full-length to The Agriculture. The Push Pull is a percolating hot pot of percussion and bass, asian metal percussion, brain damaged orchestras and frayed trumpet bleats shot through with haunting and sexy female vocals in dub. This is an organic electronic brew to wind your waist and give you a shiver like a friendly ghost. Super hypnotic, fluid layers of riddim steam up your windshield (you are going to bump this in your car, aren’t you?). This is a fun record that doesn’t take itself seriously … to quote one Japanese review, “I get tons of sense of humor from this.” Take a listen and hear for yourself why De:Bug (Germany) predicted that “Once this record starts making the rounds, no one will be safe from it…” and what Mixmaster Morris called, simply, “bloody brilliant.”

QPE – exclusive live mix set

QPE – exclusive live mix set

Now, those of you who?ve downloaded the Rhythm Incursions podcast will know that I said I?d be uploading this for your delectation. So, here it is for you to enjoy: a full set from The Agriculture?s QPE. If you?ve not heard QPE before now, there are two albums to enjoy: the excellent ?Boolean Logic? and the brand new release ?Gentrified?. Both are very much in keeping with The Agriculture?s more mellow artist roster, offering a chilled, miminal vibe that perfect to kick back to.

Anyway, rather than type too many words on the subject, I recommend you download this 50 minutes of free music and try QPE out for yourself. For more info, hit up QPE?s biog page on The Agriculture?s site, where there are also a couple of free MP3s from each album to check?

Magabo – Live in Morocco

Magabo – Live in Morocco

Play Now

Now, Magabo is not a name you people will necessarily have heard of (well, unless you listened to my penultimate show of 2005 when I aired an exclusive mix from him – more of which later), but trust me this man is most definitely worth checking out. A american now residing in Brasil, Magabo is your quintessential journeyman DJ. He travels the world, sampling both locally bought music and field recording street musicians etc., and incorporating it all into his mixes. The end result is simply incredible: grime clashes with Moroccan saz samples; killer breaks mash with Brasilian MCs. Trust me, its a pretty damn nice listen.

So, as an introduction to the man?s styles I thought I?d link you up to this mix, which he recorded while travelling in Morocco. Taking in anything from Marvin Gaye to unreadable Arabic-credited cassettes he bought on the road, its a truly fantastic listen. Don?t sleep now!

Click here to download the mix! (60Mb)

Keep an eye on Magabo?s sites – www.magabo.com and www.comandodigital.com – for more info on the man himself. However the really great news is that ?Bo has been signed up by Wordsound, and will be releasing a mix through them sometime in the first quarter of this year.

Also, for those of you that heard his killer mix that he did for Rhythm Incursions while in town, you?ll be pleased to hear that it will be getting podcast towards the end of March. So, hit up the Rhythm Inc podcast feed and be sure to subscribe!

BTTB – Back To The Basics

Tracklisting:
Digital Mystikz – “Neverland” (DMZ 2006)
Loefah – “The Goat Stare” (DMZ 2006)
Loefah – “Root” (DMZ 2006)
Kode 9 – “Ping” (Rephlex 2005)
Kode 9 – “Sub-Kontinent” (Rephlex 2005)
Skream – “Midnight Request Line” (Tempa 2005)
Lotek Hi-Fi – “Showdown” (Big Dada 2005)
JME – “Serious (Run The Road Rmx)” (679 2005)
Roots Manuva – “Colossal Insight (Jammer Rmx and Revox)” (Big Dada 2006)
Lady Sovereign – “A Little Bit Of Shhh” (Chocolate Ind. 2005)
Lady Sovereign + Frost P, Shystie, Zuz Rock – “The Battle” (Chocolate Ind. 2005)
Kano – “Mic Check” (679 2005)
Kano – “Mic Check (Remix)” (679 2005)
Coldcut + Annette Peacock – “Just For The Kick” (Ninja Tune 2006)
Vex’d – “Gunman” (Planet Mu 2005)
