Never mind the industry … here’s iD.EOLOGY!

English: Usually, it’s the birthday child who gets to bag all the presents. But as with a lot of other things, we’ll handle this a wee bit differently:

iD.EOLOGY, our lively and lovely baby and your favourite netlabel 😉 is vitally celebrating its second birthday! So we casually drop a double-compilation that leaves neither wishes nor questions, holds a couple of fine extra goodies and represents in every way what iD.EOLOGY is about.

The fact that good music can be found in almost every genre, is as familiar to you as it is to us. So our iD. allstars do not only give away a 60-minute selection of the finest tracks for the lovers of hip-hop, pop, funk, soul, lounge and breakbeats but also soothe the electronica-fraction with another 80 minutes of smartest ambient, electro, techno, dub and d’n’b. And as if that wasn’t enough already, we throw in two music-videos plus – for the first 500 downloaders only! – a bonus-single by Cyrano. As usual, it’s all free and per direct delivery.

So, why record-stores? Why collecting-societes and distributors? Why the n-th copy of your average pop-trash? Why launch-parties with champagne and caviar-appetizers? Does music need an industry? Or does an industry merely use music?

Dass gute Musik nicht auf nur ein Genre beschränkt ist, wisst Ihr so gut wie wir. Deshalb schenken die iD. Allstars nicht nur den Liebhabern von Hip-Hop, Pop, Funk, Soul, Lounge und Breakbeats eine gut 60-minütige Auswahl feinster Tracks, sondern verwöhnen auch die Elektronik-Fraktion mit 80 Minuten smartester Perlen aus Ambient, Electro, Techno, Dub und D’n’B. Und als ob das noch nicht reichen würde, legen wir noch zwei Musikvideos sowie – nur für die ersten 500 Downloader! – eine Bonussingle von Cyrano oben drauf. Wie gewohnt gibt es das alles natürlich gratis und frei Haus.

The Scene

The Scene is a collection of pirate networks that illegally obtain and transfer new movies, music, and games before they are even released and distribute them throughout the Internet (and previously through BBSes). These kinds of people are extremely organized in their behavior and are very paranoid about their secrecy. They maintain a so-called “hidden network” of top-level FTP sites (“topsites“) that get the highest quality files first and allow them to fall down the elaborate pyramid of illegal downloaders until seen on P2P programs and networks.

During the 1980s what is now known as the demoscene began to branch off from “the scene”.

The.Scene is also a mini-series about the pirate scene. The series were financed through sponsorship deals and released for free on the P2P under a Creative Commons license. It is rumored to be made by Sony. Mitchell Reichgut, director of the series, says in an e-mail newsletter:

“Another question that keeps coming up in our IRC channel and in forums around the Web, is our rumored connection to SONY. As it happens, one of our producers has a day job there (which was probably the genesis of all the conspiracy theories) but that's as far as it goes. We pay for “The Scene” ourselves; I write all the scripts, and the idea that the show is some kind of anti-piracy propaganda is truly silly.”

A: The Scene is the piracy underground where 99% of pirated movies, songs, video games, etc start out. There, thousands of pirates upload, download, and trade files (often illegally) using FTP sites. From there, the files make their way onto the peer-to-peer networks, that so many know and love.

A. New episodes are released about every 3 weeks.

Q. Is Brian Sandro a real person?
A. As it says at the end of the episodes, The Scene is a work of fiction. Fiction, as in, we make this stuff up. But just because there's no real person called Tony Soprano doesn't mean that there's no such thing as the Mafia.

Q: What software do you use to record The Scene?
A: We use a program called Camtasia (http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/default.asp) to record the chats. The actor is filmed separately.

Q: Who plays Brian?
A: Brian is played by NYC-based actor Joe Testa.

Q: Where can I find the 'theme song' from the episodes?
A: The theme song is “Catch Me” by Maylynne, available at our download page (http://www.welcometothescene.com/download.shtml).

Q: Where can I get more of Maylynne's music?
A: For now, you can't. We're working on it.

Coldcut were pioneers of the emerging hip-hop/electro scene in the eighties. Inspired by a visit to Japan, Matt Black & jonathon more primarily created ninja tune to act as a vehicle by which they could release music of a more underground nature, free from the restraints placed on artists by major labels. Ninja Tune is quite simply a massive collective of passionate music listeners and collectors just putting out what they think sounds good.There is no huge calculated commercial agenda outside of their need/want to put out good records…

Roll Deep’s new album Screwed and Chopped by radioclit

…for those unfamiliar with the signature Houston, Texas hip-hop sound, “screwed and chopped” music, originated by the late DJ Screw, is slowed down to a syrupy crawl and looped into a stumbling stutter. Good for users of codeine cough syrup (pdf link), good for the hot weather we’re experiencing here in NYC…maybe good for you, too!

I particularly like tracks 5, 6, and 9, plus the “western skit” is pretty funny slowed down.
