Mit Anspieltipps für den MP3-Player

Kostenlose Musik gibt es überall im Netz – nicht nur als Stream auf MySpace und YouTube, sondern auch von Netlabels, bei denen man die häufig unter Creative-Commons-Lizenzen stehenden Stücke nicht erst mühsam konvertieren muss. Angesichts der Vielzahl der Labels ist es allerdings schwer, sich einen Überblick zu verschaffen – allein der Netlabel-Catalogue von Phlow  umfasst mehrere hundert Sites. Wir haben 10 ausgewählt und geben Anspieltipps.

Label 1

Thinner (2)
Das bekannteste Netlabel, Thinner, kann auf eine mehrjährige Geschichte zurückblicken. Die Kritiker von de:bug (3) liebten den minimalistischen Dubtechno-Sound, als es im Heft noch Netaudio-Besprechungen gab.

Chase Records (15)
Ein 2005 gegründetes französisches Label, das sich der härteren elektronischen Musik widmet. Breakcore und vertrackte Rhythmen wechseln sich ab – das Meiste ist recht düster gehalten. Ein Nachteil dieses Labels ist, dass nur komplette Alben heruntergeladen werden können – keine einzelnen Tracks.

Rhyme Torrents (18)
Streng gesehen kein Netlabel, sondern eine Compilation-Reihe, die Nerdcore gewidmet ist – einem Rapstil, dessen Protagonisten Nerdthemen behandeln: Science Fiction, Social Networking, Programmierung, Filesharing. Einer möchte der Nachfolger des Star Wars Kids (19) werden, andere stilisieren sich zu den Gangstern des Genres: Spammer und Botnetz-Betreiber.

Comfort Stand Records (24)
Ein nicht mehr aktives Label, das sich Exotica und artverwandter seltsamer Musik verschrieben hat. Was mit einem Paukenschlag begann, der Compilation Two Zombies Later (25), ging vielversprechend weiter, z. B. mit einem dementen alten Mann, der sich für einen Country-Superstar hielt, oder einer Compilation von Porno-Musik. Großartig!

WM Recordings (30)
Ein niederländisches Label, das man als Nachfolger von Comfort Stand sehen könnte. Viele Künstler haben auf beiden Labels veröffentlicht – und es gibt ebenfalls Compilations zu abstrusen Themen wie Numerologie und Mystik.

Label 8

8bitpeoples (34)
Die Klammer um dieses Label ist klar und eindeutig: Klänge von 8-Bit-Rechnern, seien es Homecomputer oder Spielconsolen. Dort veröffentlicht auch der Entwickler der Gameboy-Musiksoftware Nanoloop (35). Natürlich finden sich auch genügend Anspielungen auf die Hochzeit der 8-Bit-Klänge, die 1980er Jahre – u. a. eine Compilation mit Coverversionen von Axel F, Jahre bevor sich Crazy Frog dessen annahm.

The Umbrella Noize Collective (39)
Ein US-amerikanisches Label für experimentelle Musik, Drone und Noise aus dem Umfeld der Snuggles-Mailingliste (40), deren Veröffentlichungen in derart schneller Abfolge erscheinen, dass es schwierig ist, das Material zu sichten (geschweige denn zu hören). Dennoch sehr empfehlenswert, wenn man sich auf die (Nicht-)Musik einlässt und in Kauf nimmt, dass die Stücke gerne mal über 10 Minuten lang sind.

Label 10

Con-v (43)
Ein weiteres Label, das sich den experimentellen Spielarten der Musik widmet – in diesem Fall düsterem Ambient. In Spanien beheimatet, fällt es durch großartige Soundscapes auf, die auch bei wiederholtem Anhören nicht langweilig werden. Auch hier sind die Tracks häufig länger, als es mainstreamradiogeschulten Ohren lieb ist.

Digital Optical Disk Recorder The grandmix 92 (as well as 90 and 91) were made in a totally different way compared to previous mixes. Only one CD player was used to load all songs 
into the Akai DD-1000 Optical Disk Recorder.

The Akai DD1000 can edit, timestretch and mix songs digitally. It can record from Analog sources, as well as Digital AES/EBU, spDif and Optical Sources. Although the DD1000 can play only 2 songs simultaneously, it has the option 
to merge songs, and thus layer them as needed. It also has great timestretch capabilities even compared to today’s standards. The DD1000’s are perfect for another reason, they never ‘crash’ messing up your edits , In over 10 years they ‘locked up’ maybe 3 times.

Switching the machines ‘off’ and ‘on’ again is all that is needed to continue your work.Needless to say the machines are still in use here today

Grandmix 92 Directors Cut The Grandmix 92 as broadcasted on Radio538 October 1999 was transferred from the DAT master to the AKAI DD1000. The intro starts of with “Timewarp complete – Ready for transmission” followed by the original Intro featuring Ben Liebrand on Vocoder. The mix was then recorded back on to DAT.

The Fuckparade starts the season 2007 with a hot May:

• The Commerzbank and the Tax Office Mitte make another attempt on May 8th to auction the Köpi and the adjacent trailer park. Once more the inhabitants are ignored, there’s no dialogue. The Fuckparade supports a demonstration against that on Saturday, May 5th, 3 pm at Breitscheidplatz, and in front of the County Court Mitte on Tuesday, May 8th, 7 am at Littenstr. 11-17.

• May 16th: Hearing about the Fuckparade 2001 at the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig (BVerwG 6 C 23.06). We have commented on the anticipated topics about a year ago.
