Recorded live at James Monroe High School in the Bronx, ?Death Mix? has become
one of the most sort after records in the history of hip-hop. Released on the
Paul Winley label in the early eighties it has gained cult status amongst
deejays and record collectors alike. Even the artwork has been aped for DJ
Shadow?s Q-Bert megamix on MoWax and countless mix CD’s have cloned the
distinctive style. Death Mix is seen as one of the first ever mix sessions and
while some of the recording may seem primitive to today?s Pro Tools and Serato
users you?ll be hard pushed to find anything with as much energy and atmosphere.

The Glade Festival grew from the unofficial and proper underground dance stage at
Glastonbury and has now run for 3 hugely
successful years. With 12500 tickets being
sold in 2006 without any advertising outside
of using their mailing list and without
announcing any part of the lineup, the event
is a phenomenon on the UK dance music and
festival scene. With 9 stages covering all
aspects of non-commercialised electronic
music from Techno and House through to Breaks
and Psy Trance and on into more experimental,
ambient and just down right crazy vibes! It
is the must go music festival for
connoisseurs of contemporary electronic
music.
Here we have a superbly mixed journey across
the more upfront styles of music showcased at
the Glade, with tracks by the likes of
Squarepusher, Dreadzone, AFX, System 7,
Hallucinogen, Meat Katie and Elite Force, The
Egg, Protoculture and many more.
Accompanying the CD is a DVD filmed at the
first two Glade Festivals, with performances
from Squarepusher, Rennie Pilgrem,
Hallucinogen, Dreadzone, System 7, Tristan
and again loads more. There are interviews
with people who went, the organisers and a
load of the artists and the DVD gives you a
real glimpse into the festival and an insight
into where it all started!

Tom Withers (Klute) has been a musician all his life. As Tommy Stupid he released his first 7″ aged 15 with his legendary skate punk band, The Stupids. They went on to release several more 7″ and Albums with Children of The Revolution and Vinyl Solution Records, John Peel Sessions, and tour the world with their live show.
After a well deserved sabbatical and discovering house and techno Klute was born and Drum and Bass was the music. Initially working for several years with Certificate 18 Records he eventually established Commercial Suicide in 2001, releasing music from a range of artists. Outside the label he continues to DJ and release music with others such as Hospital, 31, Soul:R and Metalheadz.
When not making Drum and Bass, Tom likes to make techno and play drums in his punk band. When not making music, Tom likes to go to skate parks and tend to his beloved allotment.

New at the XLR8R Podcast DJ Mix Series: anticon.
For the cold months of winter we warmed you with mix after mix of upbeat techno on the XLR8R Podcast DJ Mix Series. Now that spring is upon us and the rain is falling, we turn towards the slower, melancholic strains arriving these days from Bay Area label/collective anticon.
The 17 tracks here reflect the scope of the label’s catalog. In just an hour, the mix traverses ambient minor chords that bring tears to the eyes, hip-hop steeped in crisp beats and cogent lyrics, and a noisy traffic jam of sounds indecipherable from one another. Partially paralyzed keyboard player Dax Pierson (13 & God, Subtle) joins these elements into one cohesive piece with impressive ease. Hear his mix now, exclusively at the XLR8R Podcast DJ Mix Series.
