It’s too hot ‘n’ sticky and I’m feeling lazy, so I’m in ‘portal mode’ tonight. Some mixes to check out…

If you aren’t a regular at the Dubplate forum or Blackdown blog (and if not, why not?) you won’t know about Hatcha‘s ‘Practice Hours’ mix that Martin is hosting. Hatcha is the guy who, as far as I can tell, excerted a massive influence on the development of the dubstep scene, and this selection of pure, weighty dubplate exclusives is not to be missed. No tracklist was forthcoming, but the Dubplate crew have been busily piecing it together. Here’s what they’ve ID’d so far…

1. Digital Mystikz – Changes
2. ????
3. Digital Mystikz – ????
4. Benga – Amnesia
5. Benga ? Star Wars (Hatcha VIP Mix)
6. Scuba – Words
7. Distance – Fallen
8. Skream ? Monsoon (Loefah Remix)
9. Skream – ????
10. Skream – ????
11. ????
12. Benga – ????
13. Loefah Vs Skream – 28 Grams
14. ????
15. N Type – Way Of The Dub
16. ????
17. Distance – Fractured
18. Scuba – Words
19. Digital Mystikz – Haunted
20. Skream – Smiling Faces
21. Skream – Bonanza

Interesting to hear some examples of DJ Distance‘s more ‘steppy’ riddims, especially “Fallen” which will apparently be coming out on Boka in November. Lot’s of new Skream riddims on there too, speaking of which – check out Dubway’s blog, where you’ll find all kinds of Dubstep mixes collected in one place. Of particular note is the superb Skream mix from October last year which, even now, is loaded with unreleased dubs, including what sounds like an early version of “Traitor”. Recommended!
